Founder & Partner, BH DevCo
Steve Backman serves as a founder and partner at BH DevCo, a real estate development company specializing in build-to-suit delivery for national tenants in the e-commerce distribution and delivery space. As a partner, Steve oversees project feasibility, market analysis, site acquisition, entitlements, project budgeting and finance, and design and construction management throughout the Western and Midwest regions.
With a background in civil engineering and site analysis, Steve cultivated his strong business acumen throughout his more than 20 years of experience in commercial real estate and development. His approach to development and redevelopments in the commercial sector has resulted in unparalleled process and delivery that introduces a level of expertise that uniquely complements build-to-suit site analysis and development.
Prior to forming BH DevCo, Steve was Vice President of Development at VanTrust Real Estate, where he oversaw the development and delivery of more than 6 million square feet of industrial development. Before his tenure at VanTrust, he was named President of Cardon Development Group in Phoenix, Arizona, where he led the day-to-day operations of the company and managed the development of all company projects.
Additionally, Steve served as Vice President of Development and Construction at Rouse Properties, a publicly- traded real estate investment trust (NYSE: RSE), and Vice President of Development at RED Development, a national leader in power centers, lifestyle centers and land developments. While at RED Development, he was responsible for developing more than 5 million square feet of retail and mixed-use projects.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Steve remains active in the real estate industry through his involvement with NAIOP, ICSC, and Valley Partnership.
